‘SESAME’, my favourite shop from school days closed down this
winter after a long battle with the local council for affordable commercial
rent. This was partly the inspiration for a lino print I had already been thinking about.
The print is themed around the changing British High St and the rise
of the coffee shop chain with the demise of the essential local shops. It’s partly
based on an Eric Ravilious print from his beautiful prints of high streets and shop windows.
I'm currently printing them at East London Printmakers. I'll be printing a series in eggshell blue/midnight
blue on Reeves Antique paper and yellow ochre/cool black on Somerset Satin.
Come back to see the final prints which should be finished
in the next couple of weeks!
